Cambodia Casinos

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a immobilized ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundres and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that contains many comforts accompanying the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
