Cambodia Casinos

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
