There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
