There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
